Shelter Cymru and Tenovus Cancer Care have been selected as our chosen charities for 2017.
This follows after Compare My Move raised more than £11,000 for LATCH Children's Cancer Charity throughout 2015 and 2016. The money donated last year goes towards providing care and support for children battling cancer, as well as support for their families.
To raise money for these two charities, 10p from each completed quote form will be donated.
Each month Compare My Move receives around 5,000 form submissions from home movers wanting to save money on their removal company.
“This year we decided to split our donations between two charities, Shelter Cymru and Tenovus Cancer Care,” said Marc Benger, Co-founder of Compare My Move. “Both charities already do so much to help those in our local community and across Wales, and we hope our donations will further support their great work."
To raise money for Tenovus Cancer Care, Marc will be completing his first run in more than a decade at the Cardiff Bay 10K on April 2, 2017. He has already raised £190 for the charity.
“After supporting LATCH for the last two years, we felt that part of our support should still remain with a cancer charity, as many of our team know friends and family that have been personally affected by the disease.
“As a company that helps relocate around 50,000 movers each year, we felt that Shelter Cymru was an obvious choice for our second charity. Shelter Cymru are already doing some amazing work in helping people facing evictions and homelessness find a place to live. We hope our support over the following year will help further their work.”
Shelter Cymru is Wales' people and homes charity. The charity believe that a decent secure home is a fundamental right and essential to the health and well-being of people and communities.
John Puzey, Director of Shelter Cymru, said: “We're delighted that Compare my Move is supporting our crucial work fighting homelessness.
“Without this fundraising support, we would not be able to help as many people as we do.
“Last year through our direct advice services alone we helped almost 19,000 people in Wales. Homelessness can happen to anyone and we are there to make sure that no one has to face it alone.
“Unfortunately we are needed more than ever.”
Government figures last week revealed that 4,134 people were found sleeping rough across England on a single night in Autumn last year. Statistics in Wales show a similar story.
Around 47 people were counted sleeping rough in Cardiff in one night during the last quarter of 2016.
Compare My Move's second charity of choice, Tenovus Cancer Care, aim to help prevent, treat and find a cure for cancer.
The charity offers support, advice and treatment to cancer patients and their loved ones, as well as promoting healthy lifestyles and funding cancer research.
“We're really excited to be chosen as one of Compare My Move's charity partners,” said Samantha Coles, Fundraising Manager for Tenovus Cancer Care.
“Like them, Tenovus Cancer Care are proud to provide accessible and caring services to those who need it the most.
“As Wales' leading cancer charity, we're delighted that this great Welsh company wants to help us raise our profile and money for our important services.
“We're looking forward to working closely with the team at Compare My Move and making a real difference to people affected by cancer.”
