According to our data, the average cost of moving house in Selby is £937. This is the average removal company cost for a Friday move, which is the most popular moving day in the town. Despite its popularity, it is not the most expensive day you can choose.
Tuesday is actually the most expensive day of the week, increasing the cost of moving up to £1,110. The cheapest day for a removal company is a Sunday, with the average house move costing £717.
However, the day of your moving date is not the only factor that can affect the final cost. The distance to be travelled, the volume of items being moved and the specific month you choose can also add to the price.
Our team discovered that July is the most popular month to move house in Selby, seeing a majority of 17.54% of users. This is actually a common trend across the UK as the summer months bring clearer skies and longer days, making for the perfect travelling conditions. There is also the added bonus of the summer holidays, meaning a lot of families can move house knowing their children’s education isn’t disrupted.
Surprisingly, there was a three-way tie for the least popular month to move house in Selby. August, October and November all saw 5.26% of removals booked, making them rather unpopular choices amongst our users. Whilst it’s unusual to see a summer month see such low numbers, August has the height of the summer holidays, meaning many students and families will be abroad or on holiday, making them unable to move.
However, it’s not as unusual to see October and November see a low percentage. As these months are at the end of the year, many people will instead be looking to save money and prepare for the Christmas holiday. This can be a stressful and expensive period meaning not a lot of users will want to add to the pressure by completing the moving process.
Our research shows that Friday is the most popular day to move house in Selby, seeing a majority of 43.86% of removals booked in the town. A further 14.04% chose a Saturday move. We’ve seen this trend across other regions of the UK as many movers prefer a weekend house move to help them gradually unpack and settle into their new homes without greatly disrupting the working week.
However, Monday was also a popular day, seeing 17.54%. Moving at the start of the week provides movers with time to resolve issues or delays within the property chain, as the vital professionals needed to complete the move will be in their offices.
Wednesday and Sunday proved to be the least popular days of the week, with just 5.26% of removals booked in Selby. A midweek house move can be rather disruptive so it’s not surprising that many of our users avoided Wednesday. Sunday, however, can bring added issues as many estate agents and conveyancing offices are closed, limiting the lines of communication you’ll have available throughout the property chain.
Goole proved to be the most popular location for users moving out of Selby, seeing 12.50% of removals booked. The average property price in Goole is £151,017, which is slightly more affordable than Selby’s average of £185,250.
Selby’s latest average figure has increased by 2% since the previous year and is 8% up on the peak price of £171,917 in 2019. The majority of property sales over the last year were for semi-detached homes which sold for an average of £180,085. Local buyers also favoured terraced houses, which had an average sold price of £147,266.
Other popular locations for our Selby movers included Pontefract, York and Leeds. To help you compare locations, we’ve included the average house price for each area mentioned as well as interesting facts concerning the local property market. All information is correct as of July 2022.

Sold prices in the area have increased by 4% since the previous year and are up by 16% compared to the peak price of £130,319 in 2018. Terraced properties are the most popular, selling for an average of £118,029.
Seeing 10% of removals booked, Pontefract is next on the list with an average property price of £192,253. Over the last year, semi-detached homes were the most popular amongst local buyers, selling for an average of £175,313. Detached properties sold for an average of £296,555, whilst terraced homes averaged £144,093.

Leeds is next on the list, seeing 5% of users and an average property price of £249,754. Over the last year, sold prices in Leeds were 4% down on the previous year and 13% up on the peak of £220,759 in 2019. The majority of sales were for semi-detached houses, which sold for an average of £241,132.
