A staggering 90% of Love Island UK couples who are still together are either from different regions of the UK or from overseas. Meaning the best way to find lasting love might be to pack your bags and move!
According to a recent report by Compare My Move, only 2 out of the 20 Love Island couples still together—spanning 14 series—come from the same region. Montel and Kaz, who got together during the 2025 All Stars Season 2, are both from London. Meanwhile, Tommy Fury and Molly-Mae Hague, the runners-up from Season 5, are both from Manchester. These two pairs are the only ones to share the same hometown area.
That’s just 4 out of 364 contestants finding lasting love with someone from their own region.

To understand why people are often drawn to partners with different backgrounds, we spoke to Sex, Love & Couples Coach Andrea Balboni.
“In new environments, people typically become more open to connection as they often have to build their social networks from scratch... creating more opportunities for romantic connections than might have existed in familiar surroundings.
The unfamiliar aspects of someone from a different place can create an exciting sense of discovery and adventure—this may be why we find accents or cultural differences attractive.
There's something deeply compelling about connecting with someone who offers a completely different perspective on life. Many people find this intellectual and emotional expansion profoundly rewarding, as it facilitates personal growth while creating unique bonds based on mutual learning and exploration.”
There’s also the question of whether relationships between people from different regions are simply more likely to last.
Out of 364 Love Island contestants, only 40 have found a long-lasting relationship — and of those, 36 paired up with someone from a different region.
So, could choosing a partner from another part of the UK, or even another country, be the key to making love last?
Andrea Balboni shares her thoughts:
“When partners come from different places, shared values tend to become more intentional and explicitly discussed. This happens because differences in background make assumptions dangerous—couples can't rely on cultural shorthand or unspoken understandings.
Perhaps most significantly, these relationships tend to foster growth-oriented mindsets—partners learn to appreciate different perspectives, develop greater empathy, and often become more open-minded. The relationship itself becomes a journey of continuous learning and personal development, as both individuals expand their understanding of the world through their partner's eyes.”
