1. Loudwater Combined School

Rated “Good” by Ofsted, Loudwater Combined School is a small but flourishing school, with just 206 pupils (reported in January 2023). Loudwater encourages parents to share unique knowledge of their children so that they can thrive. In Key Stage Two data from 2022, the school performed better than average for reading, grammar, punctuation and spelling, and maths.

2. Hughenden Primary School

Proud to be a small, caring village school, Hughenden Primary School was rated “Good” by Ofsted in 2022. The school takes on children between the ages of 3 to 11 and as of May 2022 had 167 pupils on the school role. Pupils especially enjoy forest school, with activities like pond dipping being very popular.

3. Millbrook Combined School

According to the most recent Ofsted Report, pupils at Millbrook Combined School feel happy and safe and are proud to attend the school. Ofsted has rated the school as “good” and the mathematics curriculum in particular is listed as a strength. The school is larger than Loudwater and Hughden, with 692 pupils between the ages of 2 to 11.

4. Oakridge School

Taking on pupils between the ages of 3 to 11, Oakridge School has 431 pupils on its school roll as of March 2022. Rated “Good” by Ofsted, reading is listed as a strong focus of the school. The Ofsted report states that all staff, including governors, share the same moral purpose, ‘to enhance the life chances of all our children’.

5. Cedar Park School

Another school rated “Good” by Ofsted, Cedar Park School has a “strong culture of safeguarding” according to the Ofsted report. The report also stated that “pupils leave Year 6 with standards higher than national at the expected standard in writing”. Established in 1999, the school takes on pupils between the ages of 4 to 11.

5 Best Secondary Schools in High Wycombe

1. Wycombe High School

Wycombe High School, a grammar school for girls, is one of the top schools in the area and has been rated “Outstanding” in its recent Ofsted report. According to Buckinghamshire Live, the A*-C GCSE, the pass rate for Wycombe High School was 98.3% in 2022. Additionally, the proportion of students from minority ethnic groups is higher than that found nationally.

2. John Hamden Grammar School

Another school rated “Outstanding” by Ofsted, John Hamden Grammar School is a selective state boys’ grammar school. In June 2011, the school became an Academy. They take on pupils between the ages of 11 to 18 and the Ofsted report found that “there is a genuine respect for those with different backgrounds and lifestyles”.

3. The Chalfonts Independent Grammar School

An Independent School, Chalfonts Independent Grammar School was rated “Good” by Ofsted. There are 135 pupils on the school roll between the ages of 11 to 18, with plans to grow the school further. They help students realise their potential by focusing on academic areas, sports and the arts, in addition to social and emotional learning.

4. The Highcrest Academy

Rated “Good” by Ofsted in 2020, The Highcrest Academy also boasts the Eco-Schools Green Flag Award, Rights Respecting School Award, The EQualities Award, and an IQM Flagship School Award, among others. According to the Ofsted report; “Pupils at The Highcrest Academy happily live up to the school’s motto of ‘Aspire and Achieve’”.

5. The Royal Grammar School

Another school rated “Good” by Ofsted, The Royal Grammar School is a selective boys' grammar school. As a state school, it does not charge fees for pupils to attend, but they must pass the 11 plus, an exam that some primary schools administer. Ofsted found behaviour and attitudes, personal development and sixth-form provision are all “Outstanding”.
