Which Shipping Option Do You Need?

Choosing the mode of transport when shipping goods abroad is one of the major decisions you will need to make at the start of the process. This is because shipping furniture overseas can be extremely costly. Planning ahead means you can find a company that suits your budget and can accommodate your needs.

The total cost of your shipment will be dependent on various factors including the weight and volume of the goods. Bear in mind that there may be delays due to Brexit.

Lanzarote is reachable by land, sea, and air. This means you can choose from a variety of shipping methods. The main options for shipping goods to Lanzarote are:

  • Sea Freight
  • Road Freight
  • Part-Load
  • Air Freight

You can choose one option or a combination to suit your requirements when moving to Spain from the UK.

Shipping Freight

Sea Freight is one of the most popular shipping methods. As one of the most cost-effective options, it is ideal for most budgets and there are not as many weight restrictions.

The removal company will transport your belongings from your property or storage unit and ship them by sea in a container.

Lanzarote has 3 ports with the main port being the Port of Arrecife which is the second busiest port in the Canary Islands. The other ports are the Playa Blanca and Órzola.

This method is ideal for those moving large and heavy items such as furniture and vehicles. There are different container sizes to choose from meaning you can find the right one for your goods.

Road Freight

Road Freight is the cheapest option for those moving goods to Lanzarote. Thanks to the excellent road and rail networks, road freight means you can receive door-to-door service.

It is the most cost-effective option and eco-friendly thanks to the lower carbon emissions. However, there is a chance of delays due to Brexit and the various borders that your transport will have to cross on its journey.

Transporting items by road can take 7 days; however, this may be longer due to the island’s location.

International removal companies must have Goods in Transit and Public Liability insurance coverage. This means your belongings are protected during transit.

Part-Load

Those wanting to ship a small amount can benefit from part-load transportation. This is when each customer is assigned a portion of a container. The other spaces in the container hold other people’s belongings. You will only pay for the space you are allocated.

Part-load can take longer to arrive, especially if the transport has to make stops along the way for other customers. Therefore, it takes around 3 weeks on average for goods to arrive, but can be longer.

Air Freight

Air Freight is the most expensive and convenient shipping option. Ideal for those with a high moving budget and wanting a speedy delivery compared to sea freight, items can be expected to arrive in around 10 days.

Air freight costs are calculated by weight. This means that the total amount can add up very quickly. There are also weight limitations making it unsuitable for those moving heavier items such as vehicles and furniture.

Lanzarote is home to one airport, Lanzarote Airport. It has two terminals with Terminal 1 serving international flights and Terminal 2 catering to Canary Island flights.
